Quick answer: Debt review lowers your monthly debt repayments by restructuring them into one payment you can afford, and the plan is made a court order. If you live in the Free State you can start with a free assessment by phone or WhatsApp.

When your income no longer covers your debt

Lost overtime, short time, a household income that dropped, or simply prices rising faster than salaries: when your debt repayments are more than you can afford after essential living costs, you are over-indebted, and that is exactly what debt review is for.

Areas we serve in the Free State

Your municipal account and debt review

Rates, water and electricity accounts with Mangaung or your local municipality are not credit agreements, so they cannot be included in debt review. We budget for them as essential expenses so your plan stays affordable.

How debt review works

Five steps, usually over 3 to 5 years. We handle the paperwork, the negotiations and the court application.

1. Assess

A free, no-obligation look at your income, living costs and debt, to see whether you are over-indebted.

2. Protect

We notify your credit providers and the credit bureaus. From then on they may not start new legal action on the accounts included.

3. Restructure

We negotiate lower instalments and interest with each credit provider, so the total fits your budget.

4. Order

Your restructured plan is made an order of the magistrate’s court, or confirmed by the National Consumer Tribunal.

5. Clear

You pay one amount a month through an NCR-registered payment distribution agency until you receive your clearance certificate.

Timing matters: if a credit provider has already sent you a Section 129 notice on an account, that account can no longer be included in debt review. Contact us as soon as you start falling behind, not when the summons arrives.

What debt review costs

Debt counselling fees are capped by law, and your first conversation with us costs nothing.
Your first assessmentFree, no obligation

Restructuring feeYour first restructured instalment, capped at R8,000 (R9,000 for a joint application by spouses married in community of property)

Frequently asked questions

Can a Pretoria debt counsellor really help me in another province?

Yes. The National Credit Act, the debt review process and the NCR fee caps are the same in every province, and our registration covers the whole country. Your application is lodged electronically, your plan is made an order of your local magistrate’s court, and everything else is handled by phone, WhatsApp and email.

Which court makes my plan an order?

The magistrate’s court for the area where you live, or the National Consumer Tribunal. We prepare and handle the application from our office, and in most cases you do not need to attend.

Can I do debt review in Afrikaans?

Yes. Our sister practice Skuldberading, run by the same registered debt counsellor, offers the full process in Afrikaans.

How do I send my documents?

By WhatsApp or email. A clear photo or PDF of your ID, payslips, bank statements and account statements is enough to get started.

Will my employer find out?

Debt review is never published and we do not contact your employer. A debt review flag does appear on your credit report, so anyone who runs a credit check with your consent will see it until you are cleared.

Ready to find out where you stand?

Tell us about your situation. We will assess it for free and explain your options, with no obligation.
